The California Motorcycle Dealers Association (CMDA) is a non-profit trade association that represents the franchised and factory authorized motorcycle and motorsport dealers in California. The CMDA was founded in 1971 and has been instrumental in promoting California motorcycle dealer interests ever since then.

The CMDA's Pro-active Safety Program Praised at Press Conference

What has happened to AB 1156, the bill hastily introduced in 1999 that would have forced motorcycle dealers to verify the license status of a motorcycle purchaser, if he or she intended to ride their new purhcase off the dealer's lot? As you know, the CMDA opposed this bill because it would have opened up an unacceptable level of exposure to motorcycle dealers and their employees. Each dealer should establish their own policies as they relate to buyers of motorcycles. Most dealers already check a demo rider's license status before allowing them to test ride a vehicle, but it's really up to each dealer as to how far they want to go to verify a buyer's license status, after they purchase a motorcycle.
